Trip highlights
We’ll fly into Venice, Italy, for an overnight stay. Our stay includes a city tour with the Doge’s Palace, Saint Mark’s Square and its famous Basilica. We’ll stay at a 4 Star hotel along a canal, dine in a local restaurant with wine. Our cruise ship departs for the port of Dubrovnik, Croatia where we tour the Adriatic fortress, visit a Botanical Garden and enjoy lunch at a local olive grove. Next stop is Kotor, Montenegro, one of the best preserved medieval towns in the Adriatic. We” tour the Old City, enjoy mountain vistas and sample local wines and cheeses. In Corfu, Greece, known as the “Emerald Island, we’ll tour the Achilleion Palace, which houses the Terrace of the Muses built by the Empress Elizabeth of Austria as a tribute to the nine muses of Greek mythology. Santorini’s spectacular caldera is a vestige of what was probably the biggest volcanic eruption in recorded history, believed by some to have caused the disappearance of Atlantis. Well also visit the charming village of Oia with its cliffside views. We’ll dock next at Piraeus, the main port of Athens. Here we’ll visit the Olympic Stadium, the new Acropolis Museum and the famous Parthenon ~ built as a temple to Athena. Next we dock in Naples where we’ll tour the scenic Amalfi Coast, enjoy lunch and cliffside views (and shopping) in Sorrento and tour ancient Pompeii, buried by the eruption of Vesuvius. Next stop, Civitavecchia the port city of Rome, the “Eternal City”. We will tour the Vatican and Michelangelo’s inspiring Sistine Chapel, view the ruins of the Colosseum and visit the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps. In Florence we will visit the Duomo, Pants Vecchio and Michelangelo’s David among other sites, then travel to nearby Pisa to visit its Leaning Tower. At our last port, Marseille, we’ll tour the picturesque harbor of Le Vieux Port and visit nearby Avignon to tour the Palais des Papes -which served as the Pope’s fortress and palace in the 14th Century. Lastly, we dock in Barcelona for an overnight stay with two meals and tour to include Gaudi’s incredible Sagrada Familia Cathedral and equally amazing Park Guell. We transfer to Barcelona1 s airport the following morning for our return flight home.
